MANTIC GAMES TO LAUNCH HELLBOY BOARD GAME IN 2018

Mantic Games is pleased to announce it has entered into a licensing partnership with Dark Horse Comics for the worldwide rights to produce a game set in Mike Mignola’s inspirational Hellboy comic book universe.

The Hellboy board game will be a co-operative experience in which players face off against some of the comic’s most famous foes. Up to four people take control of iconic BRPD members, such as Hellboy, Abe Sapien and Roger the Homunculus, before exploring gothic locations and uncovering ancient artifacts.

Set to make its Kickstarter debut in April 2018, the Hellboy board game will feature stunning, pre-assembled plastic miniatures that accurately capture the look and feel of Mike Mignola’s world famous comic series.

“Hellboy has a great cast of characters, diverse locations and legendary monsters from the pages of folklore and myth,” said Ronnie Renton, Mantic CEO. “The comics provide a fantastic foundation on which to build an immersive, fun and fast-paced co-operative board game that will let players experience some of their favorite moments from the series.”

“Dark Horse is excited to work with Mantic Games on a Hellboy board game,” said Dark Horse Comics’ Chief Business Development Officer Nick McWhorter. “Mantic is not only a leader in the Miniatures Board Game category, but also have a thorough understanding of Hellboy and the BPRD storylines and how to integrate them into a game. We’re confident they can deliver a board game that fans of Hellboy and miniatures games alike can appreciate!”

Hellboy has appeared in graphic novels and comic books, prose novels and short story collections, two animated features, two live-action films, toy lines and all manner of merchandise. Neil Marshall’s forthcoming Hellboy film is currently in pre-production, starring David Harbour, Sasha Lane, Ian McShane, Penelope Mitchell, and Milla Jovovich.

  1. Mantic why you make me give you all my moneys?? I’d definitely be backing this Kickstarter but it depends on the quality and style of the miniatures!

  2. This is a left-field announcement for me – very surprised but very cool!

Really interested to see what direction this goes in, how much board game elements are included, how much skirmish & miniatures elements are mixed together etc

  3. Ugh. More coop games. This could have easily been a 1vMany game model and I would have actually been excited.

    • I guess it might be possible for one player to take over from the games AI and do their best to mess the other players up.

  4. Nooooooo……..more money!!!!

    • I guess it might be possible for one player to take over from the games AI and do their best to mess the other players up.

    • Darn, that reply was meant for the post above yours. Sorry 😀

  5. I sure up they will manage to finish shipping the Warpath stuff from the Warpath kickstarter that funded 2+ years ago before they start asking for money to develop this game.

  6. This is all very exciting. Now, is there any news on the 2nd Dungeon Saga gamebook you promised to backers several years ago?

  7. thank god it is a coop and not another 1vsMany!!! i am all in

  8. I really hope that the minis and other playing pieces do justice to the artwork.

I’d also be interested in a lower level start to the game. Maybe each player gets a normal BRPD Operative. If a player’s Operative dies, the player gets to chose one of the iconic Special Agents to enter the game.

Maybe finishing a game with two or more Operatives still alive and two or less Special Agents in play could form a special type of victory.

  9. 1. you can’t mess it up.
    2. keep it in Mignolas style.
    3. no seamlines on faces

    Please.

  10. Having just backed Star Saga I think I’ll wait until retail for this one.

  11. Please let it be hard plastic like for TWD!!!

I second this! I have both Walking Dead and Dungeon Saga and in my opinion the quality of TWD figures is far superior over the thin, flimsy feel of those in DS, so much so that DS has taken a back seat now to games with better quality minis!

  12. I have KoW, dungeon saga, deadzone and warpath but this might be my first kick starter. Please, please, please do the comics and lore justice

  13. Uh, yes please! o.O

  14. I’m really excited about this – I really hope the miniatures emulate Mike Mignola’s art style!!
