Here’s Negan: The Board Game is the latest Walking Dead release from Mantic Games. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be delving deep into the game to explain the main mechanics, introduce the characters, watch play throughs and plenty more. However, before we get onto all that exciting stuff, we wanted to explain how Here’s Negan fits into the wider All Out War range.
A NEW WAY TO PLAY
With the release of Here’s Negan, we’ve got a great new introduction into the universe and a totally different way to play. You see across our Walking Dead range, we’ve got a number of ways for people to enjoy the game and tailor it to their desired experience.
This is the core experience that the majority of you have played. Throughout the various narrative expansions – starting with Rick hunting for his family in Atlanta (Wave One) through to the bloody encounter with the Hunters (Wave Five) – each recreates the main Walking Dead storyline and gives fans the opportunity to see how they would tackle the deadly situations encountered by the survivors. And probably die in the process…
PRELUDE TO WOODBURY
Alongside the core starter set, you can also pick up Prelude to Woodbury. This is aimed at the solo player, as they learn more about the back story of everyone’s second favourite maniacal tyrant, The Governor. Once you’ve got to grips with the standard solo play rules, you can then collect the other expansions, which also come with instructions for going it alone.
As well as focusing on narrative play, All Out War gives opponents the opportunity to recreate claustrophobic, tightly fought battles between small gangs of Survivors. Here you can create your gang from the various boosters/expansions available and then make a mad dash to grab the supplies. Tool them up before hand with a wide array of equipment and then fight for survival.
BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL
As mentioned previously by Ronnie, next year we’re opening up the game to a whole new experience: larger battles. These will take place on two gaming mats placed together (so 20” by 40”) and will feature between 10 and 15 Survivors per side. The Walkers will still be a threat, but the gameplay will change to offer up more opportunities to blast away with guns – and you won’t be forced to sneak around all the time.
HERE’S NEGAN: THE BOARD GAME
Although All Out War is a hybrid wargame/board game, Here’s Negan is an all-out board game experience. In this semi co-operative experience for up to five players, you’ll pick one of Negan’s lieutenants before playing through 12 unique scenarios. On the surface it’s a dungeon crawler, but as we’ll be exploring over the coming weeks, there’s plenty more to it, thanks to the Reputation mechanic, how players interact and, of course, those pesky Walkers.
To sum it up then, Here’s Negan is the cherry on our Walking Dead cake. It offers a true board game experience and is a wonderful intro into the wider All Out War world. You could even use the Survivors and Walkers in Here’s Negan to try out All Out War using the quick start rules from the website.
Here’s Negan: The Board Game is available to pre-order now. All pre-orders come with FREE character cards to use Negan’s lieutenants in All Out War.
