Okay so here’s what changed. Update 8.5 basically said “screw your old teams” and introduced Divine rarity units that make everything else look like trash. But here’s the kicker, you don’t even NEED them to dominate. Wild, right?
The whole meta shifted from “stack DPS and pray” to this weird support-heavy setup where you’re running like 4 supports and maybe 2 damage dealers. Sounds backwards but when your single Ubel is hitting for 10 million damage per hit thanks to all those buffs… yeah, math checks out.
Man, where do I even start with Ubel? This unit literally steals buffs from YOUR OWN TEAM and becomes an absolute monster. First time I saw it in action, I thought my game was bugging out. Nope, that’s just how broken it is.
Ubel has broken DPS potential with the proper team composition and steals the buffs from all allies in range and applies them to herself. The crazier your support setup, the stronger Ubel gets. Just slap it down with Griffin and watch the fireworks. Fair warning though, without Frieren units backing it up, Ubel’s kinda mid. Still good but not “delete the entire map” good.
Gappy’s that unit where you either get it or you don’t. No in-between. Gappy has infinite DPS potential and by far the highest DPS in the game with broken passives that retain their values as Gappy respawns. Yeah, you read that right. INFINITE. Not “really high” or “scales well.” Actual infinite damage potential.
The catch? Setting it up properly is like solving a Rubik’s cube blindfolded. You need specific supports, perfect positioning, and probably a YouTube guide open on your second monitor. But once you nail it? GG, you win ARX.
If you’re not dropping cash on this game (smart move btw), Shadow Monarch Evo is your best friend. Shadow Monarch raises defeated enemies as shadows and has insane stats and ability damage. Plus it’s stupid easy to evolve compared to hunting Secret units.
I’m talking maybe a week of casual grinding versus months of portal farming for something like Crimson Owl. Sure, it’s not as flashy as the whale units, but it gets the job done. Carried me through 90% of content before I finally caved and bought the battle pass.
Real talk, if you’re not running proper supports in October 2025, you’re basically playing on hard mode for no reason. The days of “just add more DPS” are dead and buried.
Not even exaggerating here. Griffin buffs the damage of all nearby units by up to 220%. That’s not a typo. Two hundred and twenty percent damage boost. Oh and it’s cheap as dirt to deploy.
Every single top player runs this. Every guide recommends it. If you don’t have Griffin, go get Griffin. I don’t care if you have to sell your grandmother’s false teeth, GET GRIFFIN.
This thing does everything. Vampire Emperor (Heaven) is one of the best Support/DPS units in Anime Rangers X, deals insane DMG, buffs allies/itself, and has OP skills. DPS? Check. Buffs? Check. Debuffs? Check. Probably makes you coffee in the morning too.
Only downside is evolving it from regular Vampire Emperor takes forever and costs a fortune. But once you get it? Chef’s kiss. Makes every team better just by existing.
Getting this bad boy requires collecting all 7 Dragon Balls which sounds way cooler than it actually is. It’s basically weeks of mindless grinding. But holy crap is it worth it.
Omega Shenron has amazing HP, DPS, Range, and Speed, increases the stats of nearby allies by 50% and makes enemies take increased damage. It’s basically three supports rolled into one overpowered package.
Look, I get it. Not everyone’s dropping rent money on anime waifus and husbandos. Here’s how to build a solid team whether you’re F2P, a dolphin, or a full-on whale.
Start with Shadow Monarch. No discussion. Farm story mode until your eyes bleed for those evolution materials. While you’re at it, grab every free unit from events. Yeah, even the bad ones. Free fodder is free fodder.
Your early team probably looks like:
Not glamorous but it works. Focus everything on getting that Shadow Monarch evolved ASAP. Once you do, the game opens up.
Got $20-50 to blow? Battle pass is your best bang for buck, no contest. Season 5’s giving out Perfect Soldier and Confident Soldier which are both solid A-tier units. Way better value than gambling on banners.
After that, only pull on guaranteed banners or massive rate-ups. That 0.5% chance for Ubel on a random Tuesday? Skip. The anniversary banner with 5% rates? That’s where you dump gems.
If money’s no object, just get Ubel, Gappy, and all the Frieren units. Build the most disgusting buff-stacking team possible and watch as you trivialize all content. Must be nice having disposable income, huh?
Jokes aside, even whales should focus on meta units. No point having every unit at level 1. Better to have 6 maxed meta units than 50 mediocre ones.
Getting a unit is step one. Making it not suck is the real journey. To evolve a unit in Anime Rangers X, you first need to craft or buy its evolution item. You can craft most of these evo items at the Crafting NPC at the entrance of the Evolve area.
Some evos are game-changing. Shadow Knight to Shadow Commander? Massive upgrade. Others like Tidal Tyrant? Waste of resources. Do your homework before committing.
Pro tip: Evolve when your unit has at least one SSS stat. When you evolve a unit, all of the unit’s stats will go up by one level. So, it is best to evolve a unit when you manage to get some of its stats to the SSS rank, so that they get upgraded to O-. Yeah, O- is a thing now. Power creep’s real, folks.
You want single target destroyers here. Lucci’s your MVP, backed up by the usual support suspects. The meta team composition is Ubel/Lucci, Vampire Emperor (Heaven), Griffith (Heavenly Feather), Priest of Heaven (Ascended), Lullaby (Domination), and Frieren/Lucci/Omega Shenron.
Funny thing is, speed barely matters in Boss Rush. It’s all about maximizing damage windows. So those slow but heavy hitters suddenly become relevant.
This is where things get weird. Longer fights mean scaling units become gods. Perfect Soldier, Wonder of U, units that get stronger over time dominate here.
Also, element advantages actually matter in Infinite modes. Running the wrong element cuts your damage in half. Yeah, found that out the hard way after wondering why my Fire team was doing jack against Water enemies for 20 minutes.
Portals are rough. Like, really rough. They’re designed to make you want to spend money and boy do they succeed. Current Ghoul City Portal for Crimson Owl? Good luck clearing that without meta units.
Best advice? Don’t stress about portals until you have a solid main team. They’re endgame content for a reason. Focus on building your core squad first.

Nah. Just nah. One buffed DPS unit outdamages three unbuffed ones every single time. The math on buffs in this game is multiplicative, not additive. Stack those supports.
I see people running full Dark teams into Light bosses and wondering why they’re getting destroyed. With an elemental advantage, units will deal 2x damage. That’s double damage or half damage depending on matchup. Pretty important, yeah?
Pick. A. Lane. Don’t try leveling 20 units at once. Get your main 6 to max level, max traits, max everything THEN work on others. Jack of all trades equals master of none in ARX.
Just because you CAN evolve your Otaku doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Save those materials for units that actually matter. Future you will thank present you.
Halloween event’s right around the corner and if last year taught us anything, it’s gonna be busted. We’re talking limited units that completely reshape the meta. Start saving gems now.
The latest Anime Rangers update 8.5 brings major changes with the Divine unit, shaking up the meta and adding new characters to explore. Divine rarity’s still fresh and barely explored. Bet money we’ll see more Divine units that synergize in broken ways.
Plus there’s rumors of a Bleach TYBW Part 3 collab which… yeah, prepare your wallets. Bleach collabs always bring stupidly overpowered units. Remember when Ichigo broke the game for three months? Good times.
Want to hit top 100? Hope you got deep pockets or infinite free time. Currently, the best DPS units are Shadow Monarch (Evo), Borus, Akuma, Soul King, Vampire Emperor (Heaven), Priest of Heaven, Crimson Owl, Fingernail Saint (Fourth Form), Prodigy Transcendent, and The Drink. And you’ll need most of them with perfect traits.
But here’s the thing, 99% of us aren’t competing for world first clears. We just want to beat content and have fun. And you absolutely can do that without spending thousands.
ARX is in a weird spot right now. Power creep’s getting ridiculous, F2P gap’s widening, but somehow the game’s still fun? Maybe it’s the anime nostalgia or maybe I’m just addicted to seeing big numbers. Who knows.
Point is, this tier list isn’t gospel. Meta shifts happen, new units drop, nerfs come outta nowhere. What’s S-tier today might be B-tier next month. That’s gacha life, baby.
My advice? Find units you actually enjoy using. Yeah, Ubel’s broken but if you hate the character, why bother? This is a game, not a job. Unless you’re actually getting paid to play, in which case… lucky you.
